Clear Aligners (Invisible Braces)

Straightening teeth and improving dental alignment can contribute to a healthy and beautiful smile. Clear aligners, also known as invisible braces, are an effective orthodontic treatment for aligning teeth and achieving optimal bite. Whether it’s correcting crooked teeth, an overbite, or other orthodontic issues, clear aligners can provide a solution for both children and adults.

Clear Aligners (Invisible Braces)

Indications for clear aligners may vary, but common reasons include:

  • Crooked teeth: Clear aligners can help straighten teeth and correct crookedness.
  • Overbite or underbite: If the upper or lower jaw protrudes too far forward or backward, clear aligners can help achieve a better bite.
  • Spacing issues or crowding: If there is insufficient space in the jaw for the teeth to properly align, clear aligners can help create space and bring the teeth into the correct position.
  • Jaw irregularities: Some individuals have jaw irregularities that can be corrected with orthodontic treatments.

Children

In children, it is often recommended to refer them to an orthodontist at a young age, typically around 7 years old. At this age, the orthodontist can evaluate the child’s development and recommend early interventions if necessary to prevent or reduce future orthodontic problems.

The process

The process of getting clear aligners starts with a thorough evaluation of your teeth and jaw. Your dentist or orthodontist will take X-rays, photographs, and impressions of your teeth to create a customized treatment plan. Then, the aligners are placed on the teeth, typically using small brackets connected by wires. These wires gradually apply pressure to the teeth, moving them into the desired position.

Invisible braces

Modern orthodontic treatments also offer options for clear aligners, such as transparent aligners. These aligners are made of clear material and are barely visible when worn. They can be easily removed during eating and teeth brushing, providing more flexibility and convenience.

Good oral hygiene

Maintaining good oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment is extremely important. Wearing aligners can make it more challenging to clean teeth, so it’s essential to brush, floss, and potentially use mouthwash diligently. Your dentist or orthodontist will also educate you on the proper oral care routine and advise you on how to best clean your teeth and aligners.
