Dentures

Prostheses can be an effective solution for replacing missing teeth and restoring functionality and aesthetics in your mouth. There are different types of dentures that can be used, depending on your specific situation.

Dentures

Frames:

A frame denture is a removable prosthesis used when you still have some natural teeth. The frame consists of a metal base that is securely placed around your existing teeth using clasps. Artificial teeth are attached to this frame, replacing the missing teeth. The frame denture provides stability and comfort, allowing you to chew and speak better.

Partial Dentures:

A partial denture is used when you are missing multiple teeth but still have some natural teeth. This prosthesis consists of a plastic base on which artificial teeth are placed. The partial denture is held in place by retention around the existing teeth, and clips or clasps may also be used to attach to your natural teeth.

Full Dentures:

A full denture, also known as a complete denture or denture plate, is used when you are missing all of your teeth in one jaw. This denture consists of a plastic base on which artificial teeth are attached. The full denture rests on your gums and is held in place by suction between the denture and your jaw. Another option for a full denture is an implant-supported denture. This denture utilizes implants that are placed in the jaw as artificial tooth roots. The denture is then attached to the implants, providing a stable and secure fit. This offers more comfort and improved functionality compared to a traditional full denture. Implants can help reduce bone loss in the jaw and provide better support for the denture.

The right denture

Choosing the right denture depends on various factors, such as the condition of your teeth and jaw, your budget, and your personal preference. Your dentist will perform a thorough evaluation of your oral health and work with you to determine the best denture option for your specific situation.

Awareness

It is important to be aware that wearing dentures will always feel different from having natural teeth. Although modern dentures look and function naturally, they may feel like a foreign object in the mouth. It may take some time to get used to the new denture, and some patients may experience initial discomfort. It is essential to have realistic expectations and understand that a denture does not feel the same as your own teeth.

Maintenance

It is also important to emphasize that wearing dentures requires some adjustment and maintenance. Regular cleaning and good oral hygiene are crucial to keep the denture clean and healthy. Additionally, the denture may need periodic adjustments or replacement to maintain a proper fit and functionality. If you feel that your denture is not fitting well or even becoming loose, make an appointment with your dentist to have it adjusted.
